Lost in the shuffle of the big Aston Martin sell-off? That the sumptuous Rapide four-door sedan has been officially green-lighted.

The svelte saloon was widely expected to find its way into production after a rapturous reception at the 2006 North American Auto Show, but up until Monday, no official confirmation had come from the automaker.

Aston’s chief executive, Ulrich Bez, announced that the model will be produced on a new line at the company’s Gaydon facility, and is expected to account for between 1000-2000 units annually. The Rapide will end up being the second car produced under the company’s new owners, as the DBS is expected to bow later this year.
