30th Anniversary Bandit Trans Ams from Year One

Still Smok(ey)in’ – Year One Readying 30th Anniversary Bandit TransAms

In our April issue, we commissioned our automotive computer rendering guru Poblete to work up some tasty “What If” Pontiac Firebird impressions based upon General Motors’ forthcoming Zeta-platform 2009 Camaro. The capable artist even went so far as to include a subtle homage to Burt Reynolds, he of Smokey and the Bandit fame.

Well, it would seem that ol’ Burt is more than a little interested in furthering the Trans Am’s legend, as an item in the June issue Hot Rod Magazine indicates that he’s linked arms with retro rod experts Year One to celebrate SatB’s 30th anniversary with a series of updated late-Seventies Pontiacs.

The tastefully updated Screaming Chickens will look period, but include such modern nods as flush-mounted glass, smoothed-in fender-flares, projector headlamps, and LED taillamps. Available in three different version ranging in specification from the “base” BAN1 car with a 450 horsepower Pontiac 455 and minor cosmetic modifications, to the BAN2, which includes a more aggressive suspension package and the option of an LS-based crate engine, to the BAN3, which turns the wick up even further with a range of options that are essentially as limited as the customer’s checkbook.

Just like Bandit’s car in the film, all of these updated cars will be made in black with gold trim, and Year One will even equip your car with a CB radio and giant aerial for the full-on effect.
