KTM’s X-Bow is meeting with more demand than initially expected. The lightweight purist roadster with the futuristic bent has met with big initial demand—some 600 orders. That may not sound like a great deal, but the motorcycle manufacturer had originally expected to churn out about 100 cars a year through Italian racing concern Dallara.
KTM has now contracted with Magna-Steyr to build the Audi-engined roadster. You may recall that Magna-Steyr is already contracted to assemble much higher-volume models for other automakers, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and BMW X3.
In its current guise with Audi’s 1.8-liter turbocharged engine giving 220 horsepower, KTM indicates that the X-Bow will clear 60 mph in less than four seconds. If that isn’t enough, a 300-horsepower version is planned.
The fresh KTM/Magna-Steyr arrangement will see about 1000 X-Bows hit the street per year.
X-Bow versus Ariel Atom, anyone?
