Ruf's New Porsche Supercar- CTR3

RUF CTR3: OFFICIAL DETAILS AND SPEC

All new supercar from Ruf

Nearly 700bhp for CTR3
You're looking at what should be one of the quickest and most effective performance cars of 2007. This is the Ruf CTR3, the latest creation from the Pfaffenhausen-based Porsche legend.

Details of the new car have been leaking out onto the web over the last 48 hours, and much to Ruf's concern, the assumption has been that the CTR3 is Cayman based. In fact, only the rear lights are shared with Porsche's mid-engined production coupe, the rest is altogether more exotic.

We're aware that some of you may have seen the images and details already, but for the benefit of those that haven't we've posted them here. We're also posting the official full specifications and the word on the cars construction gathered from speaking to the Ruf team.

Only rear lights from Cayman
The starting point for a CTR3 is the front crash structure and floor pan of a 997, delivered straight from Porsche. Using this allows Ruf to take advantage of Porsche's enormous investment in safety and chassis technology in line with their large unit production numbers. A roll cage structure joins with the A pillars and sills for strength and stiffness, with a cradle attached behind the occupant cell to hold the engine and the transversely mounted gearbox. Ruf take the aluminium doors (with side-impact protection) and bonnet from the 997 Turbo and GT3 models, while the rest of the body panels - unique to Ruf - are made from a carbon-composite material.

six speed sequential gearbox
The CTR3 uses one of Ruf's full house flat sixes. With a capacity of 3,746, two KKK turbo chargers and two air/air intercoolers, it produces 690bhp. The gearbox has been developed by Ruf with a 'leading industry supplier' and is a fully sequential six-speed unit operated by a central gearlever. It should have no trouble in coping with the CTR3's 657lb ft of torque as it's apparently safe up to nearly 900lb ft of twist.

The first cars will be ready for test later this summer. For the full details, read on below...
