Video: Audi Quattro kickin' it old school
Mitsubishi Lancer? Subaru Impreza? Sure, they're the modern-era rally-car stalwarts, but long before they rose to prominence, Audi simply dominated the world rally circuit with the then-new and innovative Quattro all-wheel-drive system with which the German carmaker has by now become synonymous.
The video after the jump features some of the best footage of Audi Quattros sliding through dirt corners and jumping gravel crests as driver heels-and-toes, co-pilot rifles through navigational notes, and spectators scurry out of the way. Note the legendary Walter Röhrl's steely-eyed determination and deft footwork in some of the in-car segments.
The "Machinehead" soundtrack by Bush is more fitting than some of the euro-trash techno we're forced to endure in other such videos, but it's still no substitute for unadulterated revs and exhaust notes. If that's what you're looking for, check out the some of the related posts below.
